I want a GoPro

What's the cheapest way to get one? I've seen some on Ebay and Craigslist, but they're almost all still around MSRP (or if they're a Hero 2 they are as much as the Hero 3 White, which is stupid).

The Hero3 white is the Hero2 with new packaging, the Hero 3 black edition has the best quality. Another alternative is the Contour roam..

Does it have to be GoPro? Would any of the other cameras that are similar (Sony Action Cam comes to mind) work for you?

Cost wise, I've sometimes seen Costco get the GoPro in. If not instore, sometimes on the website. I've seen them go for cheaper than the box stores.

Well I'd prefer it to be a GoPro because from everything I've read they just seem to be the best. Plus, they have the best support/accessories (from what I've seen, again). And the problem with Costco is that I'm not a member there :V

I've read that GoPro seems to be the best as well. Especially all the available mounts.

Do you know anyone with a membership? Might be able to pay them cash and have them pick it up for you.

Not recommended. From what you're saying about the secondhand market, I suspect you're not going to find a cheap GoPro at the moment unless it's come via the illustrated route. Well, not unless you get lucky and find a really badly timed ebay auction or something.

While the Hero3 Black is awesome it had problems. Go Pro has just released the hero 3+ series which has addressed a bunch of issues with battery life and some software issue the camera had. My advice (having sold these for a while at a shop) either get the 3+ or get the 2 but dont buy a 3

I can't find much that isn't close to MSRP either. You have to remember it's supply and demand though. These things don't get sold by their owners often, so the demand is definitely still there. Plus the new 3+ isn't quite available yet and therefor isn't driving the price down too much, yet.

Take something that can act as a believable tether as and additional security measure. Often the no-suction-mount policy can be bent a bit if there is a tether. Of course, this all depends on organizer policy and track policy. I've seen a lot of hard mount only rules recently...

My plan is to mount it on the front of the plexiglass wind blocker between the seats. That thing isn't going anywhere, and it is close enough I can run a tether onto the latch for the convertible top, and still close the top.
